The Bytown Museum turns 100 this year!

Our home, the Commissariat, is almost 200 years old too – old enough to watch Ottawa’s transformation from a sleepy military outpost to a bustling lumber town to the thriving community it is today. While we at the Bytown Museum have the past covered, the present – what it is, and what you make of it – is up to you.

This is why the Bytown Museum is proud to announce its Bytown100 Photo Challenge.

We’re looking for photographers – young and old – to submit photos of their Ottawa. We want all entries to respond, in some way or another, to the question, “what does Ottawa mean to you?”

We leave it up to you – a photo of your favourite spot or activity, something (or someone) who is central to your experience of Ottawa, or a moment that, for you, captures the spirit of our city or your neighbourhood. A snapshot of daily life, a festival, or a quiet evening – we want to know what Ottawa means to you.

The winning entries will be placed in our Bytown 100 anniversary time capsule, and will also be on display at the Bytown Museum in July during our celebrations of Canada’s 150 anniversary.

Le Musée Bytown a cent ans cette année!

Notre édifice, l’Intendance, a presque deux cents ans – assez vieux pour surveiller la transformation de la ville d’Ottawa d’un avant-poste militaire endormi à une ville d’industrie animée à la communauté florissant qu’elle est aujourd’hui. Ici au Musée Bytown nous pouvons raconter l’histoire d’Ottawa et du Canada, mais le présent est à vous de découvrir et documenter.

Pour cette raison, le Musée est fier d’annoncer son « BYTOWN100 défi de photos. »

Nous cherchons des photographes – jeunes et vieux – pour soumettre des photos de leur Ottawa. Nous voulons que les soumissions répondent, dans une manière ou une autre, à la question « Qu’est-ce qu’Ottawa signifie pour vous? » C’est à vous de le définir : une photo de votre activité préférée, quelque chose (ou quelqu’un) qui est central à votre expérience d’Ottawa ou un moment que, pour vous, encapsule l’esprit de notre ville ou votre quartier. Un instantané de la vie quotidienne, un festival ou une soirée tranquille – nous voulons savoir qu’est-ce qu’Ottawa signifie pour vous.

Les gagnants seront placés dans notre capsule temporaire du 100e anniversaire et seront également affichés au Musée Bytown en juillet durant notre célébration du 150e anniversaire du Canada.
